I want to be published.
Very, very much.
But even scarier than not being published is publishing a
sub-par manuscript.
I know that no single book can please everyone, and maybe I
have a big ego, but I want to write a book that wows people. I don’t want my book to be tossed under the
bed with a ‘meh’ only half read.
So I’ll keep on writing till I get there. Until I can become the writer I want to be. This
is hard to say after receiving three rejections in a 24 hour period. But it’s
true.
Rejections suck. Even from critique partners and beta readers. Just keep on plugging along. Hone your craft. Own the words. It gets better.
ReplyDeleteIt's a journey, I figure there will always be a hurdle or brambles in the way.
DeleteI think that's a worthy goal, S. P. I think what drives us as writers is the idea of creating a story that will resonate with readers and make them even want to re-read it. It's not really about pleasing everyone. So it's worth that extra effort. Keep on keeping on.
ReplyDeleteKeep going! I try (and sometimes it's hard!) to see rejections as proof I am trying!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great way of looking at it.
DeleteJourney on, Sara! I'm mired in the query, synopsis, and outline phase.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for good news for you!
DeleteNever give up! If you write a book that makes YOUR heart sing, or makes YOU laugh, or makes YOU cry, it will surely affect others the same way. It may not resonate with everyone, but it WILL resonate with some. Their positive feedback makes it all worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteI'll keep writing. I just hope to be good enough someday to reach others.
DeleteKeep marching on! It is frustrating, especially when watching everyone else get their stuff out there. But you have to be happy with whatever you send out into the world and feel good about it. I just keep reminding myself that there's luckily no age or time limit on getting published. It will come ;)
ReplyDeleteYes! That's keeps me at it too. I've got many years left, I'll get there eventually.
DeleteI think I'll print this and stick it up on the bulletin board.
