Never Surrender

First I’d like to welcome my newest followers, thanks for joining!  You can see I’m getting very close to 100 followers.  We’ll have to do something fun for that!

Elana Johnson is having a never surrender blogfest!  She’s celebrating the release of her new novel, you guessed it, SURRENDER, which is a sequel to POSSESSION.  You can sign up for the blogfest here.  All you have to do is blog about a time you didn’t surrender.  There is also a drawing you can enter.

The idea of this blogfest caught my attention.  Never Surrender.  Everyone has stories they can tell about not surrendering, about trying harder, working longer to get their goals.  I LOVE the idea of getting to know everyone’s stories.  And I love the hope and inspiration that it should provide.

The only thing was I couldn’t think of any one big moment in my life that was a Never Surrender moment.  For me, not surrendering is a small choice you make a billion times every day.  Getting out of bed when you know you’re going to have to read the same picture book 800 times, or that your kitchen will never be clean.  Getting out of bed to go to a difficult job, or to take care of a sick relative.  Being patient, being happy, working hard and always moving forward.  That is not surrendering.  It’s the little choices each day, that add up to our attitude, the pathways we travel and our whole mortal experience.  Life hasn’t turned out exactly as I planned (I don’t think anyone can say it has) But because of the choices I make each day life is pretty good.

NEVER SURRENDER.

    1. Thanks. When I look back on things I don't always see the whole, just the bits and pieces that make up the whole.

  7. Thomas Edison is my hero in this category of not giving up. He said "You only fail when you quit trying." I'm good with that.

  10. People often forget the little things. I'm glad you posted about it. My life sure as hell didn't turn out the way I had planned but I cannot complain and won't surrender.

  12. Congrats on reaching 100 followers!!!

I agree. It's not just the big things that make a difference. Those little things that we easily take for granted add up in a big way too.

    1. They do add up. There are so many little things. I think our attitude to our everyday choices are what shape our attitudes to the big things when they happen.

    1. Often it's harder to consistently do the day to day, every day, for the rest of your life stuff then it is the big things.

  17. An interesting take on this challenge... but I would have to agree. The little choices we make each day (to not give in or give up) are the ones that make our world go 'round!

  18. That's a great way of looking at it - each day calls us to make these choices.
Congratulations on the rising # of followers!

  19. You're on to something here. We quickly forget about those "days" when nothing seems to go right no matter what. Simply put, they are the days when despair and defeat are beating a rugged path to ones heart and enticing you to surrender. Some do, but fighters such as yourself refuse to quit...refuse to surrender to defeat and grow stronger as a result. Very good points here. Thanks.

    1. Thanks for your comments. Those days, where all the little things seem to tie you up and drag you down, are the ones that can break your resolve. We need to keep fighting.

  20. Ah, yes, never surrendering is something we do everyday in the little acts we do. I think sometimes that's important to remember. We don't have to be or do big heroic acts to be amazing. We simply have to keep going. Thanks for participating in the blogfest!

  21. Exactly! When we do it everyday, it doesn't even see like a choice! :)

  22. I really like your point that not surrendering is a daily choice we make. Sometimes I do surrender to the "I can't face one more question from my kids" frustration, and snap at them and tell them to leave me alone.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get to the other people in this great blogfest!

    1. No worries, I haven't made it to everyone yet either. Thanks for dropping by! I surrender to that frustration too. I think we all do. It's picking yourself up and trying again. Never giving it up as a lost cause but always trying to do it right, even if we failed last time that's important.
