Multiple Times

Hi, my name is Sara and I'm a re-reader.

I often have people ask me why I re-read books. I ask them if they've ever watched a movie or TV show more than once.  They almost always say yes.  Why is it considered ok to watch movies and lame sitcoms multiple times but not to re-read books?  OK, so that wasn't really where I was going with this post, I just feel strongly about it.

My books are like friends, I like to visit them every now and again.  I have certain books I like to read in certain moods, some I go back to so I can remember life lessons I've forgotten. Some I study to learn different aspects of craft. Sometimes I don't have any money to buy books or time to go to the library and I HAVE to read.  I know there are a lot of wonderful books out there and I do spend most of my time trying to find new book friends.  But that doesn't mean I have to forget about my old ones.

Are you a re-reader or not and why?

  1. I'm a constant re-reader and re-watcher. I find so many things I missed in the first pass.

Like you say...my books are my friends and like cherished friends, they should be visited often!

  2. LOL! You should see my Kindle to-be-bought list. It's mostly things I've already read. I just *have* to have them on Kindle, too. ; )

  3. Yes, I'm a re-reader! For many of the same reasons you are. And I have a horrible memory, so that plays into it too. :)

  4. Jo, I miss things on the first pass too. Another good reason to re-read.

  6. Zan, me too. Of course, unless I know the person recommending it has similar tastes to mine I don't like to spend money on a book until I've read it. Is that weird? Of course I make exceptions for author friends that I know I'll love their work.

  8. Another re-read fan here ... I always find something that I missed last time, having an iffy memory is a bonus!

  10. Speaking as someone who's on her yearly reread of The Lord of the Rings, yes I'm a rereader! Books are definitely my friends, and I return to my favourite YAs again and again. Also, I have a memory like a sieve. It's fun rereading Agatha Christies when I can't remember whodunit.

  11. Hmmm, there seems to be a common theme of poor memories here....
