Surrey

Happy Halloween!

The last couple weeks have been crazy, but the good news is they finally started the foundation of our house!  I won’t bore you with the excruciating details of our struggle with the county over paperwork but we’re finally on the way.

I mentioned last time that I was getting ready to go to the Surrey International Writers Conference. I went, it was amazing, and now I’m trying to fit back into regular life. If you want a great overview of the rollercoaster that is a trip to Surrey, Rose has a great one. There's another great summary here.

I’ll probably be talking about Surrey on and off for, well, forever. I’m a convert. For me, it was very validating as a writer. It was also amazing to meet so many people who have the same goals, who are going through the same struggles. I was very impressed with how friendly and supportive everyone was. The classes were well taught and varied. There was always an option, something I needed to learn. More frequently, there were multiple classes I wanted and it was torture to decide. I had numerous agents and writers tell me how different Surrey is from other conferences, in all the best ways. I’ll definitely be returning. And I'd love to see you there!

  3. Sorry for the headache involved with getting work on your home started, but I'm glad it's finally going!

Sounds like the Surrey conference was a great experience. The view from Carol's hotel windows looked gorgeous. I've never attended a conference before, although it's something that I'd really love to do in the future. Can't wait to hear more about what you were able to do there!

    1. Yes, unfortunately the family all got hit by a stomach bug and now writing is back burner to not throwing up. I'll just have to keep posting about it to keep it fresh in my mind.

  5. Can I tell you how much I would have loved to attend with you? I'm waiting for when the kids are out of the house to start being a real person, which is closer than it seems.

Yay for the foundation! (Do you want me to go sling stinky cheese at a few people?)

    1. Ha! I may take you up on your stinky cheese slinging if things get bogged down again. For now they're moving, and that's amazing.

  7. I loved Surrey and seeing you again, Sara! It's everything you said and more. Though, I may never get back to it, since it's so far from where I live, but I'll always have this year's Surrey experiences.

Great news on your house! I'll send good house building vibes your way. ;-)
