Stuff

Wow, what a weekend.

Yesterday there was a break in a water pipe and we were without water for five hours.  Not a big deal. We keep bottled water for this purpose. We were fine, though Truck Boy, who I need to start calling Mini-Engineer was very concerned about flushing the toilets.  I don’t know if they cut a line while fixing the break but then our internet was out for several hours.  Again, we survived with little difficulty but it definitely got me thinking about how prepared we were for apocalyptic events should our world ever turn into a dystopian novel.

Many of you are participating in NaNo and others are taking the month off to pursue your own challenges, still if anyone else is hanging around I have a couple things I wanted to let you know.

Joylene Nowell’s novel DEAD WITNESS is on sale for $1.99 until November 16.  If you like suspense you’ll like this. It is a great novel.

Also Mark Koopmans is hosting a “50 states of pray” event on Christmas Eve. The title is a play on 50 Shades of Gray and while he is looking to find someone from each of the 50 states, he’s also looking for anyone, anywhere that wants to participate.  Wouldn’t that be cool to find someone from every country?

Hope your week is off to a bang up start!

  1. We are supplied by our own well, but have had enough pump problems to keep prepared --for drinking, washing, flushing. Glad you were not severely incommoded.

    1. We have rain barrels that provided ample water for flushing, and our bottled water worked for drinking, cooking and washing. Really, it was hardly a hardship. Now if it had happened when I wanted to take a shower I would have been much more upset.

    1. Thanks, Suze. Everything is back to normal and despite the difficulties, it really didn't affect our life too much. If it had been out much longer it might have, though.

  4. Glad you weathered the weekend okay! A little adventure always burns more calories, or at least I like to think so. :)

    Have a great week!

  5. I'm glad to hear you were able to weather the outages over the weekend so well. Have you experienced one of Georgia's epic ice storms? We moved here in December of '71, and it was warm, warm, warm. Same for January and most of February. Matter of fact, we went swimming in the Holiday Inn outdoor pool in early February. Then at the end of the month, old man winter came in with a bang, and an ice storm knocked out power for several days. What a rude awakening! That was the last time we were caught unprepared.

    1. Never seen one of the infamous ice storms yet. I'm not looking to change that either.

  6. Yikes! I'm glad your water/internet outage didn't last too long--it's always a pain when those modern conveniences we take for granted don't work the way we want them to!

    1. So true, I'm almost glad they break down every now and again to remind us to be grateful for them.

  7. When we don't have things like water or electricity, we really appreciate when we have them. Glad you didn't have to be without them for days. Thanks for sharing the news.

    1. I guess if you didn't know what you were missing it wouldn't be so bad. But once you have it it's hard to go back. That's one problem I have with so many time travel books.

  10. Oh! No water is a challenge, but we roll with the punches. It's my MIL I worry about and we're the maid care givers.

  11. Ooh, I saw another reference to Mark's event yesterday. Must go join. Wonder if he already has someone from Montreal?
    Thanks!
Glad you survived the water and internet shortage :-) We had our power cut for half a day on Friday and I realised how stuck we would've been if it had gone on longer - everything in our house (hot water, stove, heat, wifi) is electric!

    1. All back to normal, thanks. I would have become pretty cranky without my shower.

  15. My apocalypse plan revolves around me making it 700 miles to my parents' house. D:

We had a decent food storage (and armory...), but unemployment last year ate all of it up. I have some bottled water, at least.

...but I wouldn't have been able to stay off the toilet for five hours. I pee like it's the Sahara and I need to make it rain, you know?

  16. Thought I would pipe in with a comment. You survived and it does make you realise how much we rely on something when we aint got it.

    NaNo? NoNo! :)

Delighted you made mention of the lovable Joylene, eh.

And Mark has obviously finished causing chaos in Holland. I reckon he has a warehouse full of wooden shoes.

    I'm outta' here.....

    Gary :)

  17. Oh yuk, sorry about the broken pipe. Definitely NOT fun. OH right, I need to decide if I'm going to be a part of Mark's event. Love the theme.

  18. Glad you were prepared when the water went out. Your post reminds me that we need to replace our emergency water jugs in our house soon.

Thanks for sharing about Mark K's event. I recall reading about that on another blog recently too.

  19. Oh no! Here's to getting those pipes in order. No one needs to be flooded out of their house, here. :)

  20. Hey, I hope you're not under water again. (Literally or figuratively.) Give us a wave when/if you survive, eh?
