Grammar Guru--well not really

The other day I found myself going through parts of speech in my mind, defining nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc  and thinking of words that could be in multiple categories.

ME. THINKING ABOUT GRAMMAR!

Crazy.

Someday I may be an author yet.

  1. I do this too sometimes!

I draw the line at diagramming sentences though :P

    1. I haven't diagrammed sentences since school, though I'm beginning to see the use of it.

  2. Sarah,
; ) I taught Latin and grammar haunts my dreams sometimes. Notice, I said haunts not graces. LOL!

  3. Grammar will be the death of me. Sometimes I feel like I need to take English 101 again. haha When I'm talking, though, I'll notice I have said something that isn't gramatically correct and I will correct myself. Yep, I'm silly.

    1. Not silly, that means you're aware of it. Pretty cool to my mind.

  4. I love grammar :-) Though I kinda like Zan Marie's comment too!

  5. Ha! I love grammar rules. They're well-defined. If only all of writing could be like grammar.

    1. See, I don't think grammar makes sense. No matter how much I study it it's convoluted and confusing.

  6. Haha! I'm always thinking about grammar. I even correct billboards while going down the highway. Sad but true!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog the other day. I appreciate the comments. Hope all is well!

    1. I've found myself correcting signs too. Or laughing at them, depending on the mistake.

  7. I never actually "think" about grammar. And when my kids ask me about different parts of a sentence (while doing homework), I usually tell them, "I just write sentences. I don't diagram them." :)

    1. I don't generally think about grammar either. That's why this was such a shocker to me.

  9. When I was first getting serious about writing, I kept a verb list while I was reading because I had trouble finding exciting verbs when I needed them. It helped TONS! Now verbs fly more easily off my fingers--just because I listed some.

    1. A verb list is a good idea. Of course I generally just ask The Engineer. He usually has some good ideas.

    1. Hi Joylene! Thanks, I've always thought of author as someone who was published but I'll get there.

  11. HA! Grammar Guru. I was never good at all those parts of speech things, but somehow, intuitively, I could write and spell really well. Go figure!

  16. I'm terrible about grammar and all the terms... I even have a hard time remembering what a clause is! It's my main downfall. I can usually see when it doesn't look right, though.

  17. Stopping by from Elise Fallson. Grammar gives me a headache. If only I could've known in High School that I would actually need all that grammar they were trying to teach :/

  18. Thanks for this short, but powerful post, Sara. Your words, and the words of your commenters, really encouraged me. My strength is coming up with story ideas - not grammar. This was so uplifing, thanks! BTW - I use a grammar girl to cover my back. :-)

    1. It's nice to know we're not alone and that other writers struggle with some of the same things we do. That's why I love blogging so much.

  19. Haha there are times where I need a grammar guru! Sometimes I like to stick tightly to the rules and other times I like to toss them out of the window and stick to what I want to do instead. I need someone to reel me back in during those times.
