Good Enough Isn't Always Enough.

I was reading a book and came across this statement.

“I’m not interested in making what’s easy. I’m interested in making what’s beautiful”

It wasn’t talking about writing but it applies just the same.  I don’t want to throw a book together and make it just good enough.  I want it to be the best it can be.  I want to stretch and grow to get it there.  I want it to challenge not only me as the writer, but the reader too.  Otherwise, what’s the point of all the effort?

  1. I agree you can't make your writing good enough, you have to write it to its best potential!

That goes a long way for writing and if you write your book to its best potential, there's a possibility that it will get rave reviews.

It's the same for blogging...you gotta make your blog to its best potential and if you do that, you'll get tons of followers and comments.

    Great post, Sara!

    1. Very true on the blogs. And something I need to be better at. Sometimes I hurry the blog.

  2. YES! I totally agree! I think writers owe it to their readers and themselves to only publish the best books they can possibly write.

    1. I like how you phrased it. We do owe it to ourselves and our readers.

  3. I'm afraid my very best will take me a lifetime to achieve. But I think the journey will be worth it.

    1. That's the good thing about it. Our very best changes as we grow. So we always have something to strive for. It would be boring if we could do everything perfectly.

  4. I totally see your point about wanting to write the best book you could write. At the same time, I think we as writers should also know when it's time to pull back and say, "Hey I think I'm done!"

  5. So true! This is why I revise, again and again and again!

  6. I like what Cynthia has said. Reaching that point is one only the author can know but, from experience, I think we do know when we get there.

    1. Exactly right! We just have to listen to our instincts and the story.

  7. You're right! It's just, every time I think this, I get scared by how much work it involves. Why must the internet be so distracting?? :-)

    1. There is a lot of work. Though my optimistic side does hope somethings get easier the more I write.

  8. Sara - You have no idea how timely this is for me. I have been closing in on finishing my WIP (or so I thought) when I realized my dialogue still needs work. Not an easy fix. However, I feel the same way you do - I'm not interested in just getting a book published, I want to know I gave it my very best. Thanks, friend.

    1. Glad it could help. Dialogue is so hard. I hope the best for you as you work on that, and that it's not as daunting as it appears.
