Easy Peasy. Or Not.

Last night we were watching A League of Their Own and we came to that line.  You know, the line.

"It's supposed to be hard. If it were easy everyone would do it.  The hard is what makes it great."

I think this applies to anything that people are passionate about but of course it applies to writing too.  Writing is hard, it's also brilliant and amazing, and I think the good times are even sweeter for having spent time thinking I've lost it all.

To overcome challenges, to sweat and work and toil and pray, gives you such a sense of accomplishment when you stand victorious at the end of that manuscript.

When the hard times come calling, just remember, hard is what makes it great.

  1. I remember that line! If I had a corkboard, I'd pin it on there...

  2. So true! I love that movie- so many great lines in it. My fav was "There's no crying in baseball!"

    1. I tried to work that line into the post too but it just wouldn't streamline.

  6. It's so true. If it were easy, there would be no satisfaction when we get it right. Plus, challenge is good for us. :D

    1. Challenge makes us stronger, even if we don't always enjoy it while going through it.

  7. So true, Sara. There is so much satisfaction in finishing a manuscript, and it's nice to know other writers get it!

  9. All I remember from that show is Tom Hank's character peed and peed and peed. Great post, Sara. Words to live by.

    1. Yea, there's that too. :)

I haven't seen it in years but when I noticed Netflix had it for streaming I had to watch.

  11. I've traveled a lot. I mean A LOT! And you know what? I've paid for all the trips (well, except for one in which my parents cut the bill... I was 16). Anyway, what I'm getting at is I enjoyed the trips all the more because I paid for them. I worked really hard to make the money to go. I enjoyed the trips. If I had been given the dough to go on them, I would have enjoyed them but not as much as it was when I earned them from my sweat and tears (ok, not that bad). It made me know that I worked for the trip. Is this making sense?
Well, it's the same with writing. To finish a first draft and to know it took a lot of time and energy but I finished it is an AMAZING feeling. It was never meant to be easy but worth it. Something like that. Thanks for the post.

    1. You do appreciate something so much more if you earn it. I've done a little traveling and someday I'd like to do more. Savor those experiences.

  12. So true. I think this reminder is needed often, sometimes. I don't know if I could truly appreciate the outcome of my writing if it fell into place perfectly the first time around.
