Neil GAiman adn Kazuo Ishiguro!

Okay, they're not really on my blog, but I do have a link for you here.  Neil Gaiman and Kazuo Ishiguro, two amazing authors, have a discussion about genre, writing, reading and books in general. It's a fascinating discussion but it's made me realize how much more I have to learn. Since I mostly write fantasy I especially enjoyed the part about sci-fi/fantasy and the role they play in society.

What did you think of it? Anything stand out to you?

  1. My husband loves Westerns above all others, though he's been known to read a Romance/Thriller or two. But do you think I can find Westerns online? No. They're disguised as Historical. It was much easier to find them in the olden days when thrift stores had 4 walls full.

  2. I'll go check it out.
I think we will always have a lot to learn...and that's an awesome thing.

  3. It's a great discussion. I do remember correcting something via Twitter, though, can't remember. Is it Tolkien that Gaiman is quoting when he means Lewis, or the other way around? Anyway, the entire discussion got me thinking about the changes going on right now, with humanities gaining importance again as more and more people become entrepreneurs, instead of the mid-19th century everyone-as-an-office-worker mentality. Yay for language and liberal arts! (There's an erudite comment...)
