Thailand again

Here is another post about how books (and movies) are being used in Thailand to protest the new government. Books do make a difference, which is both exhilarating and terrifying. There is great responsibility as an author when you're deciding what to put down on the page. You never know how it will be used.

  1. I didn't realize protesters were using the 3 finger-salute, but I'm not surprised, the written word can be a very powerful thing. And, another example of how the pen can be mightier than the sword.

  2. When I heard about this yesterday, my first thought was, "I wonder what the author thinks of this ..." :)

  3. So if you write a story about resisting totalitarianism it could be used in real life.
    nice!

  4. When I write a story, I hope it will make a difference. Somewhere. I love stories that do.

  5. I totally agree about our responsibility as authors. We have the power to influence many minds.

  6. Yes, what we write matters - more than we might imagine. It's been said that poets and writers are like prophets: they sometimes are slightly ahead of the rest of the world in seeing important issues. I kind of like that.

  7. I haven't heard about this yet. We've been watching what is happening in Moncton, NB. Very scary.

  10. Sadly, I too haven't followed much of anything in the news lately. (Odd, seeing as how that was something I always used to do.) We should never take our liberty for granted.

  11. I do think it's absolutely wrong that they plan to arrest them. Are they committing a crime?
