Lady Bugs

It's lady bug season again.  Every spring and every fall we get flocks (swarms?) of ladybugs coming into our house.  They like to congregate on the ceiling but the cats are going crazy chasing the few who choose to zoom around the room.

This is one of their hangouts.

They're really quite distracting. Especially when they drop off the ceiling into your hair, down your shirt or onto the keyboard. Add some blistered fingertips to the mix and we've got writing issues.  Still, I'll persevere int he face of these overwhelming distractions to keep up the writing. :)

What are your roadblocks?

  1. Gag! I _hate_ ladybugs! This year we've added the noxious kudzu bugs and they make a crushed ladybug smell like fine perfume. Ugh!
Hope it gets better soon, Sara.

    1. My kids are loving them.

Sorry about the kudzu bugs. Blech.

    2. Kudzu bugs?? That noxious plant comes with its own bugs??

    3. Yep, Deniz, that it does. Kudzu bugs are imports, too, and eat not only kudzu, but all legumes including soy beans that are a big cash crop in GA. They seem to swarm to warm walls, cars left standing in the sun, and other places that we don't want bugs clinging to. Like our hair, skin, and clothes. Ugh.

    4. That's really quite repulsive. Fortunately we don't have any kudzu on our property. Yet.

  2. LoL! I love ladybugs! Sorry to hear they've decided to camp out in your house though. Sounds like the temperatures are dropping where you live. Not much to do except try to proof your house by sealing cracks and crevices as much as possible. If you've got siding on your house, chances are they're trying to hibernate under there too. I've heard some people buying ladybug houses and putting them outside in an attempt to get the beetles to use that instead. Not sure how well that works. Good luck. My biggest roadblock right now is myself.... :/

    1. Temperatures are dropping and our builder was less than competent (he's no longer in business). We've only had a couple the last few years and thought we'd taken care of everything but this year has been a big one.

  3. Oh my goodness, that would so freak me out. My biggest distraction is...me ...and my procrastinating ways. :)

    1. Mission accomplished, my dear. :)

And thanks for signing up to participate in FSF, this week!

  5. I think those are Asian beetles. Around here, Asian beetles (very different from ladybugs) seek to hibernate inside homes once the weather turns cooler. And they are annoying. Very.

My biggest roadblock to writing is settling in to write on a consistent basis.

    1. They very well could be. Blech.

Consistency is hard, but there is an argument for being flexible in your writing. Hopefully you can find the best of both worlds!

  6. Aww, but they're so cute! My sister gets a lot in her house too. Lucky we don't because I wouldn't be able to take watching my cats play with them.

    1. My kids love them. We've tried to lay down some strict instructions about not touching or squashing the bugs. Not that they listen.

  7. Haha! I used to love them as a kid, but I have to admit I would not be amused if they were dropping down my top several times a day :-)

    1. Fortunately they have reserved that particular maneuver for my hubby. They are LADY bugs after all.

  8. I'm cold and I keep ending for the fridge thinking/believing if I could find something decent to eat, I'll get warm, then get back to work. Yesterday I made bread pudding with old bread crumbs. The piggies I live with eat it in one sitting! No--they couldn't finish off the cookies! No way! shish.

    Okay where were we?

I've actually written 2000 words on my WIP since Halloween night.

    1. It is getting into the so cold I can barely work time of year. Hubby loves bread pudding, he would have been right there with your piggies. :)

  9. haha, I'm making soup and that's why I didn't proof-read! Honest. Ending was supposed to be heading. And Eat was supposed to be ATE. Hahha, Oh well.

  10. OOH! I love ladybugs, but I wouldn't love them like this. I just have life in the way of writing. Work, kids, soccer, practice, church duties, being a mom, scouts and... hmmm. Whatever else pops up. Like weddings and baby showers! :)

  11. NO WAY with the ladybugs! That is so weird/cool! Interesting! But yeah... I wouldn't like them dropping down my shirt or on my keyboard, LOL...

    1. The I don't mind them unless they're on or flying into me. It does make me worry about our power bill and how much we could cut if we could ever find all the holes though.

  12. Your post made me think of Ladybirds... and the nursery rhyme which goes something like this:
    Ladybird, ladybird, fly away home.
Your house is on fire and your children are gone...
I forgot the rest of it.

  13. My town has had a bit of a Hurricane roadblock, so there is that~but this sort of roadblock affords me ways of helping others that I had not previously thought of~a good roadblock. I came to you by way of Suze.

    1. Welcome! Yikes, hope you survived the hurricane all right and are gearing up for the next storm. It is a good roadblock in that it can help us to be better people. That's always a good thing.

  14. Yikes, Sara - I love ladybugs. (But I haven't dealt with the numbers you describe! ^_^) My main roadblock is my responsibility of being my husband's art business manager. While he continues to have a full time evil day job, I help out so he can paint in the evenings. Thanks, Sara!

  15. Whoah! Much better than the spiders we get running into our house during the spring and fall. Care to trade? Hm, my writing road block is the little guy I have sleeping on my chest right now. He wouldn't lay down for a nap today so I'm wearing him around while I attempt to get a few things done. At least he'll sleep like this!

    1. No thank you. I'd much rather have lady bugs than spiders. Hope the baby sleeps.

  16. Lady bug season ended here last month. We didn't get them in the house like that, but my daughter and I had fun counting them on the trees.

No roadblock for me. I think. Just a house begging for me to tidy it. :D
