There’s a lot of discussion about how the internet is ruining our manners. It’s so easy to get down on someone when they’re not standing in front of you. Unfortunately, this isn’t anything new to the computer era. Oh, I think in general we are more selfish and less polite as a society but an author saying mean things about other authors is not new. Writerin the North has a fun post about literary insults. It’s a fun read despite the fact that some of them were about Jane Austen. I guess it just goes to show authors never change. Which one was your favorite?
I liked the Voltaire one - him and his sly dig at Canada :-)
ReplyDeleteThe one by Virginia Woolf talking about James Joyce was pretty funny. Thanks for pointing us to the post!
ReplyDeleteI laughed at the Voltaire one too. Actually they're all kind of funny, even if I don't agree with them. People and their opinions... sometimes it's just entertaining.
ReplyDeleteDeniz, Well he compared Canada to London too, and London's pretty cool so it's all good, right?
ReplyDeleteDomey, yea, there were some good ones. It was interesting to see this side of some of them.
ReplyDeleteAbby, I don't agree with most of them either. And even if I didn't like something I would never put it like any of those. But yes, it is entertaining.
ReplyDeleteWell, Voltaire being French, I just assumed he was slanging us both [bg] Maybe I shouldn't assume?
ReplyDeleteOh,I'm sure he was. My time in Canada has been short, measured in minutes rather than hours, and it was very wet. Mostly I remember our car leaking. But I like London so I prefer to put a positive spin on it.
ReplyDeleteFunny, my first time in London was kinda wet [g]
ReplyDeleteI'd rather think of it positively, too!
Good idea [g]
I JUST read this whole thing on how we really, really, need to be nice to one another, especially online because you never know who's going to stop by your blog. . .
ReplyDeleteThose were fun.
I do agree that we should be nice to each other. In addition to being professional and not ruining your career by making agents not want to work with you, it's just the right thing to do. But part of me does enjoy reading these.
ReplyDeleteIt all just goes to show that we all have different tastes! The world would definitely be a happier place if everyone kept their opinions on things they didn't find to their tastes a little quieter. :)
