If you haven't read this post by Donald Maass you should do it right now. It's about what kind of characters are you asking people to spend 300-400 pages with. It's a great, inspirational read.
I'll have to check it out. I have read books where I just didn't like the characters. If you can't root for them, no matter how well written, you don't want to spend time with them.
Interesting post. I do wonder if people will like my characters. There should always be something to relate to, even if their acts are quite out-there.
