I'm looking for resources on world building, do you have a favorite or something that has helped you greatly? Or maybe resources on how to layer the world building into the story.
Seckman and I made the daydreamers group on FB specifically for things like this. Writers asking writers. Hope to see this question there because people get a ton of great advice When they do!
I just wrote out this whole long answer, and then left the page. Ugh. There are a hundred sources out there, but the longer you live in a world mentally, the richer it will be. Period.
What Emily said. Hard to find a better resource. There might be some posts on world building on inkPagent as well. Got to the site and type it in search, see what you get. :)
I wish I had a great place to direct you, but maybe the best advice I can offer is to re-read some books that do this really well, look at how the cogs turn and how that world operates. What is it that really makes this world come alive for you?
Dankia Dinsmore is presenting a workshop in Surrey on world building. Maybe there is something on her site or a forumite might be able to talk about what they learn. https://imaginaryworldscentral.wordpress.com/

ReplyDeleteCheck on Janice Hardy's blog and search through her earlier posts. I bet she's done a post on world building.

ReplyDeleteI would love to know too even though I don't write books that require it in the same way I would need to know how to do it if I wrote fantasy.
