Pretty girl (my four year old) was taking a loooong time in the shower the other night so I stepped into the bathroom and asked if she needed any help. Which, as everyone knows, is secret mom code for 'hurry up!'
"But, mom." She replied "I'm telling a story."
That caught me short. My little girl is making up stories in the shower. I get some pretty good ideas in there, too.
Carry on, Writer Girl, carry on.
Another budding talent.... It must be so cool to see creative aspects of yourself in your children... She's a lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteBath tub or idea mill? LOL. I get plenty of ideas there, too.
ReplyDeleteHow awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat is just so cool! What a charming discovery. Did she tell you what the story was after she got out?
ReplyDeleteI get ideas in the shower, too. It must be the hypnotic sound of the running water. Who knows?
Precious. My girl sings, makes up her own songs. :)
ReplyDeleteWoooHoooo! A writer is born. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love the shower for ideas. It works 99% of the time. Write On!
ReplyDeleteI love this! And how wonderful that you respected her creativity and let her get on with her story. Showers are truly magical, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteThat's where I write too! Maybe we're related.
ReplyDeleteThe creative process begins early. Get her to write the ideas.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that! I've worked through plot points and other details in the shower too.
ReplyDeleteColour me impressed that you can trust your four year old in the shower by herself!
ReplyDeleteShowers, walks and driving familiar routes by myself are often where I get the right state of mind for new ideas. :)
Lest you call social services, she turns five next week and while the toilet/shower has a door between it and the sink I keep the door open and stay by the sink while she's in the shower. She's super independent though and bath time was a huge fight that ended up with me as wet as her. Giving her a little freedom to do it herself has saved our relationship.
