I was bit by a happy bug. Alright, so it wasn't a bug at all Jen nominated me for the How to be Happy meme that is sweeping the internet. I knew I had to do this one. It's fun and we all need a little more happiness in our lives.
This was actually quite hard. There are a lot of things that make me happy but mostly I believe happiness is a choice. Bad things happen, yes, but it's
our choice how we deal with them.
So here are my top ways to be happy.
1. My family. My husband is the nicest, most perceptive person. He really understands and supports me. Watching my children explore the world always helps me realize what life is about.
2. Helping others. I was once told "if you're feeling sorry for yourself, it's because you're thinking of yourself" Focusing on others helps me keep my life in perspective.
3. Chocolate. Need I say more?
4. Books. They keep me sane in a crazy world.
5. Friends. Both real life, and on line.
So tell me, what makes you happy?
All of the above in that order. No wonder we follow each other. :)
ReplyDeleteWe do have some similarities :) now If I can just get published as you are.
DeleteDittos, Sara! It also makes me very happy to have the time to just sit and look out the window into my backyard--the colors, the critters, the peace.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Pam
So true. I love that alone meditating/pondering/observing time.
DeleteOur lists are very similar, though I also use prayer when I'm down to get my balance back.
ReplyDeleteI was going to put God and prayer but decided not to at the last minute. I'm glad you brought it up.
DeleteDitto--except for the children...unless my former students who contact me on FB with stories of why they remember me fondly count. ; )
ReplyDeleteAgain all of the above!
ReplyDeleteGreat list. :) The only thing I would add is coffee.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it. I don't drink coffee but I know a lot of people who would put it on the list.
DeleteAll of those. I needed to be reminded of this. I've been down in the dumps this week.
ReplyDeleteYou have a nice list, Sara. I'm going to add for me hot yoga -- sometimes. Sometimes it just kicks my butt and I'm too drained to be happy.
ReplyDeleteAnd the swamp cooler. I don't know how to explain it but it is such a soft, moist cooling system (which only works in dry climates.) Last night, I was sitting on the couch with my feet propped in my husband's lap and my daughter on the other side and we were just hanging out under the stream of lightly cool air. Not all frigid like air-conditioning. And I just felt like life was so, so good.
Awesome picks and 'helping others' is one I hadn't thought of, but it's one I should have.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that happiness -is- a choice...well said!
Learning to be grateful for what I have went a long way to making me happier. And writing. Definitely writing.
ReplyDeleteHappiness is very much a choice. A good choice. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour list sounds alot like what makes me happy. Coffee and making cookies would be on my list though :)
ReplyDeleteHey! Were you copying off my paper?
ReplyDeleteMy answers would be pretty much the same as yours. Scary. Except I'd have to add my grandchildren to my list. You will, too, some day.
I think you just wrote up my exact list! Excellent choices!
ReplyDeleteGreat list of basic stuff, Sara.
ReplyDeleteIt proves that we sometimes look for happiness in strange places, when it's right under our noses...

All of the above! Plus baby giggles :)
ReplyDeleteGreat choices, Sara. (:
ReplyDeleteI hadn't seen it, but what a lovely meme! I think my list would match yours, but I must add coffee too :-)
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you, Sara, that happiness is a choice. However, a cozy afternoon with a good book and hot coffee can't be beat in my mind!
ReplyDeleteHappiness is definitely a choice!
ReplyDeleteCommunity service always makes me happy. It makes me realize how fortunate I really am.
I love your happy list-- felt good just reading it. :)
ReplyDeleteHowdy! Do you know if they make any plugins to safeguard against hackers?
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda paranoid about losing everything I've worked hard on.
Any tips?

Awesome! And now I'm mad at myself for not adding chocolate to my list! LOL. How could I have forgotten that????
ReplyDeleteGreat list. Except I can't eat chocolate...hypoglycemic. Otherwise I completely agree, especially about it being a choice. I haven't been choosing really well lately (medical issues getting me down) but I named my blog Life is Good as a reminder that it's all about how you look at it.
